My job is to say those same deep emotions with fresh, new images that still feel instantly Schlager.
Instead of the thousandth “mein Herz schlägt nur für dich,”
I search for lines that surprise and stick — more vivid, more creative, and still perfectly singable.
The hardest part? Convincing composers to let go of the safe clichés.
They often fear the audience won’t “get it” right away…
but when they embrace words that feel different, the song suddenly sounds brand-new.
That’s the magic moment. ♡
Born in Germany, I moved to Australia at age eight, grew up bilingual, studied and worked there (even as a TESOL teacher helping others master English), then returned to Germany as an adult.
This back-and-forth life means I don’t just “know” the languages —
I feel every shade, every rhythm, every little emotional twist in both.
The result? Translations that sing naturally and touch the heart exactly the same way the original did —
whether it’s the dreamy “Mein Palomino Girl” becoming “My Palomino Girl”
or an English pop lyric finding its perfect German soul. ♡
Sometimes people come to me with just a handful of words or a feeling.
Sandra, for example, wrote: “Ocean, white sand, palm trees swaying, ice-cold drink, and the love for my partner.”
That was all!
I just sat and thought, let the sun warm my face, watched the waves and listened to the given melody a few times …
and suddenly the words started dancing on their own.
A few days later “Days Like This” was born — exactly what she wanted, exactly her picture, but now it told a full story.
That’s what I do. I take your private little dream, keep every colour you gave me, and turn it into a song that feels like it was always yours. ♡
As a bilingual lyricist living in Perth, Australia, I often write lyrics to existing compositions, letting the melody guide me like an old friend whispering secrets. The words aren't forced, they emerge naturally from the rhythm and flow. One of my favourite hacks is playing with syllable counts and cadences. Instead of sticking to my comfortable patterns, I experiment with varied lengths: short bursts mixed with held out notes, like "da DA da da DAA DAA" followed by a punchy "DA DA DA." This variety makes the lyrics more singable and opens doors for composers to create something truly fresh and exciting.
